Vanquished Synopsis:
(Warning: For mature audiences only)

For a price, the world’s most powerful people can explore their darkest desires. On a private island hidden in the ocean they may hunt humans for game, attend gladiator-style fights, participate in elaborate orgies, and freely indulge in all the deadly sins within the cosplay of ancient times.

Abducted from their life in Miami, Valoria and her younger sister wake up in this secret society, wherein Valoria is condemned to the fights and her sister is taken away to become a sex slave.

Now “property” of a sadistic tyrant, Valoria joins other men and women captives who are forced to fight and maim for others’ enjoyment, to run in their hunts, and participate in deviant fantasies. And she’s under the cold, watchful eye of Alexior, a hired trainer with his own agenda for being involved in the twisted decadence.

After surviving several near-death ordeals, a defiant Valoria focuses on her training and against all odds soon becomes a favorite. But she fights for one thing and one thing only—to be reunited with her sister and to be freed.

But promises of freedom are sometimes just manipulative lies . . .

My Thoughts:
Oh my gosh. I don’t even know where to start with this book. It was a masterpiece that sucked me in from the first page. Seriously y’all, this is a GOOD book. I even had to walk away from this book because there were scenes that were so graphic and violent that I felt sick to my stomach. It’s a book about survival and humanity, but there was also an underlying romance going on between Valoria and Alexior. Think hunger games, but on a major bigger scale. Valoria (not her real name) wakes up in a holding cell with other girls and she has no memory of what happened to her or where she is. All she remembers was she was interviewing for a position as a live-in maid and then she wakes up on the island. A bunch of rich elitist decided it would be fun to make a “slave island” for lack of a better name, and force these people to fight for their survival, to kill, to be punished, and to be abused. Valoria reminded me so much of Katniss. Her strength and will to live pushed her through the fights and the killing. Her need to find her sister made her a warrior. She was feisty and smart. I don’t give out rating of a 5, very often, in fact, I’ve only gave one 5 in the time I’ve been reviewing. My only problem was that I wanted more at the end. The ending kinda felt rushed, but other than that, this book just became my favorite of the year.
My Rating: 4.5
