Mini review: Incandescent by River Savage

Incandescent by River Savage
Release date: August 17, 2014
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
Phoenix ‘Nix’ Knight thought pulling his club out of the illegal shit his Pops got them into was difficult. Until he meets Kadence. Kadence Turner has no business lusting over a student’s father, especially the president of the Knights Rebels MC. Nix is crass, obnoxious and dangerously sexy and for some reason, Kadence can’t seem to hate him for it. The bossy biker breaks down her defenses, but unlike the old Kadence, the woman she is today won’t give in without a fight. The tension is undeniable, the attraction fierce. A man that wants what he wants and a woman that will fight him every step of the way.

My Thoughts:
( As of Thursday Jan 28 this book was free for Kindle on amazon. Go get it)

I'm all the MC's right now. There's just something so sexy and bad about a MC (if the members look anything like Sons of Anarchy, even better).
Kadence was burned in a fire set by a MC, and ever since then she's wanted nothing to do with them, but when one of her students father walks in, she knows she's in trouble.
Phoenix is the President of The knights rebel MC and also Z's dad. Nix is automatically in lust with Kadence, but what he wasn't expecting was a smart- mouth and sass. Nix brings out the worst in Kadence, she's snarky and smart-mouthed. All qualities that drive Nix insane. It was really fun to watch these two interact and the witty banter between the two of them. It was filled with sexual tension to the extreme. Just like all MC books, this one does have some action in it and fighting. If you're a fan of motorcycle clubs, go download this one. I'm already working through the second book in this series.

The fill-in boyfriend by Kasie West

The fill-in Boyfriend by Kasie West
Release date: May 5, 2015
Publisher: HarperTeen
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
When Gia Montgomery's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she decides to do the unthinkable…convince the cute guy waiting to pick up his sister to pretend to be her boyfriend for the night. The task is simple: two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.
The problem is that days after prom, she can't stop thinking about her fill-in boyfriend. But can Gia turn her fake boyfriend into a real one without exposing her lie and possibly destroying her friendships and her newfound relationship?
Smartly observed and wonderfully romantic, Kasie West's talent shines in this tale of one girl's unexpected quest to find love…and possibly herself.

My Thoughts:
I've been a fan of Kasie West since her first book released. When I read "on the fence", I thought no other book she released could top that one, till now. I don't even have the right words to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I'm all about high school romance\angst books. This book had everything I like in a book (not in real life); mean girls, drama, different cliques, and romance.

Gia has been bragging to her friends forever about her boyfriend that attends UCLA, but her friends have never met yet. When Bradley dumps her in the parking lot of her prom, Gia comes up with the brilliant plan of finding someone to be Bradley. A fake Bradley. After she convinces FB to attend the prom with her,she decides that she actually likes this FB. All the drama aside, this book had a nice little lesson it, Social media will be the down fall of our generation and sometimes you're not as good as a person as you think you are. Gia learns this lesson the hard and it made her a better person. Yes, this book is a little over the top, but I still really enjoyed it. I can't wait till the next book by Ms. West,\.

The bourbon kings by J.R. Ward

The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward
Release date: July 28, 2015
Publisher:NAL
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

My Thoughts:
I know I'm late to the game on this review, but I still wanted to write about it. Wow. I felt like I was in\watching a southern soap opera. I loved it! I'm picky about multiple POV's. sometimes I can roll with them and other times I'm just not into it. This book and the multiple POV's worked for me.

I really enjoyed the insight into each character, it made for a fuller story? Does that make sense to anyone else? haha. I was rooting for Lizzie and Tulane the whole way through. I'm from the south and I've been to the derby many times, so I liked those aspects. This book was filled with drama, family secrets, and mysteries. I was literally trying to find out who do what\who all through the book.

My only negative is that it left me wanting more. Which I guess, is a good thing for the author because I already pre-ordered the second book :)

Any other girl by Rebecca Phillips
Release date: January 26, 2016
Publisher:  Kensington
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
After a disastrous, reputation-destroying party at the end of junior year, Kat Henley has a new plan. When it comes to boys--especially other people's boys:

Don't touch.
Don't smile.
Don't charm.

In the past, drawing attention to herself helped distract people from what really makes Kat different--having two gay parents. But it's also cost her friendships. Kat can't afford to lose any more of those, especially not her cousin, Harper. They're spending one last summer together at the lake, where they run into an intriguing newcomer named Emmett Reese. After years of trying to prove she's just like everybody else, Kat has found someone who wants her because she's not. A boy who could be everything she wants too--if Harper hadn't liked him first. . .

My Thoughts:
This was such a good book. I really enjoyed Kat and her Dad's personalities. This reminded me of a Morgan Matson book that I read. in the way that it has a lake setting and a boy.
Kat learned when she was little that if she drew the attention to her, people wouldn't focus on the fact that she has two Father's. After her best friend thinks she hits on her boyfriend, Kat can't wait to get to the lake and have an awesome summer with her cousin Harper. Harper and Kat are complete opposites. Emmett is the newcomer this summer and right away is drawn to Kat, the only problem is that Harper has already claimed that she likes him. Kat decides that she will help Harper get Emmett, This book was like a love triangle. With a lot of self-realization and growing up. Almost like a coming of age book. Rebecca Phillips has such a great way of hooking readers and making them feel like they are in the book. This book couldn't of been better.

All in her head by Sunny Mera

All in her head by Sunny Mera
Release date: November 10, 2015
Publisher: She wrties press
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
As a young girl growing up in the Midwest, Sunny experiences the shame and stigma of scandal when her father is banned from their church for having an affair with the pastor’s best friend’s wife. As Sunny grows older, she begins to build the life she’s always wanted: she marries, buys a house, enrolls in graduate school, and soon has a baby on the way. But when she experiences the psychological phenomena of orgasmic labor, it triggers a chain of bizarre events, and she gradually descends into a world of delusion and paranoia. As Sunny struggles to separate the real from the unreal, she relies upon friends and family to ground her in truth and love―and keep her from going over the edge into madness.

My Thoughts:
What a beautifully written book. While reading I experienced so many emotions. I was laughing crying, and cringing throughout this book. I felt like Sunny was talking to me on a one-on-one sitting instead of reading a book. This was an honest, raw tale of one woman's journey and mental illness. There should really be more books like this one. I can't imagine giving birth and then having all those things happen. Sunny was so brave and strong dealing with everything. I finished this book in about 3 hours on a flight. It's such a good book that it will suck you in and not let you leave until you're finished.

Sweet Revenge by Serene McCarthy

Publisher: Amazon digital service
My rating: 2.5

Synopsis:
Beautiful Kaitlyn Monroe never thought that her job as a personal shopper would land her a chance to bump into a bad boy billionaire - Roy Hearst. Entirely fascinated by her wit and intelligence, he offers her a dare-devil proposal - to play the role of a social escort by his side. He just needs a date that he can string along to the socialite functions he is invited to attend. Believing in the pure innocence of the arrangement, Kaitlyn agrees to the 'scandalous' proposal for the sake of securing a better life and earning the money she needs for her college studies. Everything seems to proceed smoothly until the day she finds herself in love with the charming yet forbidden billionaire. Love and commitment are words that never appear in the dictionary of Roy Hearst because he is one man who is able to get any woman he wants with a snap of his fingers. Will Kaitlyn stand to lose him forever with her confession of love or can she tempt the snobbish cad into falling in love with her?

My Thoughts:
First off, I think that this book has a lot of potential. It was almost hard for me to read because I couldn't really get the facts straight. The author spelled some things differently each time and changed locations constantly. Kaitlyn is a personal shopper and she is assigned to be the personal shopper for Roy Hearst, also the man that owns the stores. She somehow agrees to become his social companion and then falls in love with him.

The plot of this story is actually really good. The characters themselves are a little shallow and could use some development, but other than they were alright.
All in all, this was a short read and with some changes to this book, it could be a 4\5 star read.

Their bargain strips them down to searing passion and naked vulnerability, and Jess can still glimpse her loving Caleb buried deep inside this rough cowboy. In the end, an unbearable truth emerges that could push them toward forgiveness...or could destroy their fragile bond forever.

My Thoughts:
I have been a Victoria Dahl fan since she released her first book, I have every single book of hers and I love them all. I was so excited when I found out she was writing a historical erotic romance book. No one does erotic better than this author. Poor Jessica was put in a bad situation and with no other way out. Caleb and Jessica were supposed to be married, but he left for California and a whole slew of misunderstandings happened. When Caleb comes back for Jessica, he finds that everything has changed with Jessica. It was a love story with a wicked character plot twist. If you're a fan of Ms Dahl's, you'll want to read this short, romantic book.

Review: Forgotten Promises by Jessica Lemmon

Release Date: January 19, 2016
Publisher: LoveSwept
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
Morgan Young had a perfect upbringing, and now she’s got a perfect boyfriend and a perfect future—until her twenty-first birthday changes everything. First Morgan finds out, in the most painful way possible, that her relationship is a sham. But that’s nothing compared to the nightmare about to unfold.

It’s too late for Tucker Noscalo. A brutal childhood left him with a bad reputation and a criminal record. Fresh out of jail, Tucker has a score to settle with Baybrook’s crooked chief of police—his own father. Nobody will believe Tucker’s explosive accusations without proof and a good lawyer, neither of which he has on his side. Until he sees someone he used to know, someone who just so happens to be the daughter of the best lawyer in the county.

He needs Morgan to convince her father of the ugly truth. But first he has to convince her, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get her to listen. Confronted by the story of Tucker’s dark past, Morgan feels utterly compelled to help him. And as their connection grows into a fierce bond fueled by raw passion, Morgan finds herself falling for the wrong guy—but never has the promise of love felt so right.

My Thoughts:
I don't even know where to start with this book. I loved it, but it was brutal. Like, "rip out your heart and make you want to find Tucker's "sperm donor" and inflict the worst kind of pain and torture imaginable".  Fair warning; This book does deal with child rape and abuse, so if that is a trigger for you, stay clear of this book.
Morgan is out celebrating her 21st birthday with her boyfriend and best friend, until the boyfriend and best friend inform her that they are a couple. Morgan makes her way to a convenient store and proceeds to buy her own wine, because it's her birthday and she can. When she see's Tucker, a boy that saved her from her high school boyfriend not knowing what "no" means, a boy that she used to have such a crush on. When Tucker ends up buying Morgan's wine for her, she goes out to thank him and ends up getting stuffed in the truck. Nice birthday huh? Tucker is also desperate to settle the score with child- molesting chief of police, his father. So, kidnapping Morgan is the only out he see's, her Dad is the best lawyer and Tucker's only hope.
While Morgan is being held hostage, she and Tucker grow closer, at first I just thought it was like stockholm syndrome. but there was a real connection with Tucker and Morgan. As they both learn more about each other and Morgan learns why Tucker has kidnapped her, she vows that her Father will help Tucker. This book was so heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. My heart truly went out to Tucker and all he had to endure. I can sit here all night and tell you why I loved this book, but it would be much easier for y'all just to read it yourselves.

The Lion’s Den by Eliza Freed
(Faraway, #2)
Publication date: January 12th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Adult
Buy here: Amazon
My rating: 4

Synopsis:
An injury stops the bleeding of Meredith and Brad Walsh’s fractured marriage. As Meredith recovers and tries to regain her memory, Brad fights to convince Meredith their marriage was perfect, even if it barely existed.

But with Meredith’s memory comes clarity, and Meredith is faced with the reality of a husband and a lover. A husband who will do anything not to lose—his family or anything else, and a lover who will set her free to see her happy. Breaking up her family is not an option, but neither is staying hidden inside her mind.

My Thoughts:
I can not begin to tell y'all how excited I was to read this book. I was absolutely enthralled with The Devil's Playground, the first book. When the last book ended it left off with Meredith sending Vincent a blank email, their code for someone is suspicious and their relationship needs to end. The beginning of this book picks right up where the other book ended. Meredith takes a stumble down the stairs causing her to forget about Vincent and their relationship. Meredith thinks that there is nothing wrong with her marriage to Brad, but as some time passes she starts putting together some pieces of the puzzle and realizes that not everything is as okay as she seems to think. It kind of dawns on her that maybe she was having affair when she starts finding things that she hid, aka the money in the tampon box. Meredith also starts having dreams about her and Vincent having sex, but she's not clued into the fact that they weren't dreams. It was like Meredith was putting her life back together and figuring out new things about herself and her marriage. This book was EVERYTHING! It was so good that I finished it in a little under 3 hours.
If you missed my review of the first book, you can find it here.

Review: Postcards from the sky by Erin Seidemann

Postcards from the sky by Erin Seidemann
Release date: November 10, 2015
Publisher: She Writes Press
My rating:5
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
The aviation world is a man’s world―it always has been, and it continues to be so today. In fact, women make up a mere 5 to 6 percent of the total pilot population worldwide. But from the first time Erin Seidemann experienced what it was like to see the world from a small plane’s perspective, she was hooked―and she’s spent much of her time since then fighting her way into becoming one of that 5 to 6 percent. Postcards from the Sky: Adventures of an Aviatrix tells of the struggles and adventures one encounters as a woman in the male-dominated space of aviation. With humor and equanimity, Seidemann recounts her varied experiences as a female pilot―from the chauvinistic flight instructor she makes the mistake of falling in love with to the many, many customs agents who insist she can’t possibly be her plane’s owner (“Where’s your boyfriend?”)―while at the same time giving insight about just what makes flying so incredible . . . and so very addictive. Frank, funny, and full of adventure,Postcards from the Sky is an entertaining foray into a world few women have dared enter.

My Thoughts:
I am all for a girl breaking into a "mans world". That is exactly what Erin Seidemann did.
I have always been fascinated with the whole world of flying and I have even debated taking flying lessons. After reading this beautiful memoir I'm regretting not doing it. While this book is about Erin's love of flying, it also goes deeper than that. There were times in the book that I was cracking up.
Erin seems like the type of woman I would love to be friends with. I wish there were more people like her, great role models from the upcoming generation. My goal was to read more memoirs and I am so glad that I signed up to read this awesome book. This is a book that I would recommend to anyone.

SURRENDER MY LOVE
Love in Bloom: The Bradens #14
Melissa Foster
Releasing on January 13, 2016
World Literary Press

Annalise “Leesa” Avalon never realized that one sentence could change her life until one of her students revealed his crush—and within twenty-four hours she finds herself under fire. After a grueling investigation that turns her life upside down, she steals away to Peaceful Harbor, Maryland, with a new identity to try to pull herself back together and figure out her next step.

From the outside, Cole Braden lives a charmed life. He’s a top orthopedic surgeon with a thriving practice, strong family ties, and friends he adores. But there’s a lonely spot inside Cole that no one can see. He has an enormous heart—and a painful past—but the desire to love and be loved is too strong to ignore.

A chance encounter brings Leesa and Cole together, and the attraction is immediate and intense. But a relationship is the last thing Leesa needs—and the only thing Cole wants. Long talks, heated moments, and deep connections are hard to resist, but the harder Cole tries, the more Leesa pulls away. Cole might truly be the right man for Leesa, but is Leesa the right woman for him?

My Thoughts:
Every time I read a Melissa Foster book I immediately have a new favorite, but then comes another great book and that one becomes my favorite. It's a never-ending cycle.
When I read what this book was about I just knew I had to read it and I'm so happy I did. Ms. Foster has a way of making you adore her characters, from the leading characters to the supporting characters. Leesa and Cole have to be my favorite (until I read another of her books) couple. There was such a gentleness and kindness about Cole that made me want to cuddle him. Leesa has such a huge heart and even though she was cleared of any wrongdoing, the whole situation shook her faith in herself. Leesa though that she could start over in Peaceful Harbor, but she didn't realize how much she needed to go back and find the closure of her old life. I think everyone of us could relate to Leesa in one way or another. These characters both had some problems in relations, but from the moment Cole gave Leesa his muffin you just knew that they could help heal each other.
Siiiigh. I really did find this book lovely and every character unique.

Synopsis:

10:02 a.m.
The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.
10:03
The auditorium doors won't open.
10:05
Someone starts shooting.
Told from four perspectives over the span of 54 harrowing minutes, terror reigns as one student's calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival.

My Thoughts:
I usually don't like books that have multiple points of views in them, but this one sort of worked for me. We follow 4 different students in different places at the school while there's a shooter. For some reason this book reminded me of Nineteen minutes by Jodi Picoult. When reading about school shootings in book it always stops me and makes me thing about things. It was brutal reading about people being shot for no reason. This is one of those books where you really just have to read it. I really can't find the right words to say, just read it.

So Felix vows to help turn Hazel into a girl her ex can't resist-so then she can break his heart. With an alliance in place, Hazel's revenge is all but assured. But with each piece of payback, she feels a stronger attraction to Felix, even though revenge will turn her into a girl Felix could never be with. And soon Hazel has to make an impossible choice: revenge...or Felix, the boy who's stolen her heart. WARNING! This book contains betrayal, revenge, and that most tempting vice of all, the bad boy you know you can't have.

My Thoughts:
This book was revenge at it's best. I really loved Hazel and Felix. When Hazel finds out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her with her best friend, Felix, her best friends brother, comes to Hazel's side. Felix concocts the perfect revenge plan. The two of them should start dating. What's funny about that plan is that Hazel and Felix can hardly stand each other, but you know what they say, there's a fine line between love and hate.
Hazel doesn't really have that high of an opinion about Felix, but as they spend more time together they both learn that there's a lot more to each other than they originally thought. This book was really the perfect high school love\revenge plot. Do yourself a favor and read this book. It'll make you laugh and want to hand the perfect boyfriend and best friend up by their toes.

Mini Review: Ex-billionaire escort by Leigh James

Ex-Billionaire Escort by Leigh James
Publication date: October 14th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
Rising actress Lowell Barton has problems… Lots of them.
One night, she tries to solve them with margaritas… Lots of them. Unfortunately, she throws them up all over a police officer’s shoes. And then a video of the incident shows up all over the Internet.
Now she needs to do damage control. Fast. What she needs is a story juicy enough to throw the press off. A new boyfriend—a perfect, smoking hot new boyfriend—that’d be just the thing.
Unfortunately, it’s just the thing she doesn’t have.
Deciding to throw caution to the wind and money at her mounting problems, Lowell hires a date. But when sexy escort Kyle Richards steps out of her past and onto her doorstep, she finds herself in a fresh hell she couldn’t have even imagined.

Is he the stepbrother-escort from hell, or just the thing to save her career—and herself?

Lowell’s about to find out. One thing she knows for sure: only desperate times call for measures this desperate.

My Thoughts:
For some reason I have been really into reading books about step-brother\father kind of things. This book was good and I was surprised with how much I actually liked it. Lowell is an actress that is rebelling against Hollywood's typical standards for women's body types. During a night out with her friend she gets white girl wasted and pulled over by the police and someone records it and posts it online. She decides she needs a distraction for the press, so she hires an escort to throw them off. Only she ends up hiring her ex-step brother. Kyle was just delicious. I really enjoyed him. I especially loved how it tried to do the right thing in the end for Lowell. If you're in the mood for a hot romance, check this book out.
