UNSUNG by Shannon Richard (November 3, 2015; Forever Yours E-Book; A Country Roads Novel)
ONE NIGHT IN NASHVILLE…Harper Laurence has been jilted on her way to the altar. Desperate for some time away from her friends and family, Harper takes off for Nashville-only to meet a hot, scruffy, tattooed stranger. A man she liked a little too much, and who left her the teeniest bit . . . well, pregnant.

Liam James is an up-and-coming country musician, who just found his muse. Ever since their weekend together, Liam hasn't been able to forget the curvy, vivacious woman who left him wanting more, even as she inspired some of the greatest songs he's ever written. He's determined to convince Harper that he's the guy for her . . . and that the best love songs can never be unsung.

About the author:
Shannon Richard grew up in the Florida Panhandle as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a BA in English Literature and still lives in Tallahassee where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She's still waiting for her Southern, scruffy, Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she's a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

Forget this?”
Her purse flew into the air, hitting the floor with a thud. She clutched her chest and spun around. Liam was leaning back against the counter, her bra dangling from his forefinger, swaying just slightly in the air.
Okay, yes it was true that she’d gotten to see his body up close and personal the night before, but there was something to be said about seeing it in the daylight. Actually there was a lot to be said about it. She just couldn’t do that much talking as her brain had temporarily short-circuited.
He was wearing nothing more than a pair of black boxer briefs and a smile, his washboard abs giving her the strangest urge to do laundry. She looked like death warmed over and he looked…well, glorious.
“Your bra wasn’t the only thing that you forgot either. I don’t get a goodbye, Harper?”
“I figured it would be better,” she said as she reached up and attempted to smooth her hair. She had no doubts that she did not succeed.
He leaned back against the counter and folded his arms across his chest, her bra now hanging at his side. “Better for whom?” His mouth quirked to the side, making him look infinitely sexier.
            The jerk.
“Look, we don’t have to do this whole awkward morning after thing,” she said making a gesture between the two of them.
“Perfect.” He nodded his head as he reached up and scratched his beard, the sound of his nails on his scruff reached her ears from across the room. He used the hand that was still holding her bra and it swayed with the motion, taunting her like a freaking red flag…even though it was navy blue.
“Then I’ll just get going.” She took her eyes off of him, so not an easy thing to do, and went to grab her purse on the floor.
            “Why?”
“What?” Her head came up and she straightened.
            “Why are you leaving?”
“I thought we just established this.”
“No, we established not having the awkward morning after thing. We never established you leaving,” he said shaking his head.
“Do you plan on making this as uncomfortable as possible?”
“I was thinking about it. But if you head out that door I think you’ll make yourself plenty uncomfortable all on your own.”
            “Meaning?”
“How were you planning on getting back to the bar?”
Well, that had her coming up short. “I hadn’t really thought that out.” She hadn’t really thought anything out as was evident by her current predicament.
“It’s three miles to the main road, and another five to the Secondhand Guitar. And as you don’t know where you are I would imagine it would be difficult to call a cab. Also I don’t think you’d get far walking on those shoes of yours before your feet started to kill you.”
“Well, isn’t this the perfect setting for a horror movie.”
A laugh escaped his mouth and he shook his head. “I was actually going for the perfect setting for a romantic comedy. Boy meets girl, boy takes girl home and gives her multiple orgasms, boy makes girl breakfast the following morning.”
Okay, she was going to ignore the romantic comedy comment. “Look Liam, last night wasn’t something that I’ve ever done before. I’m not the kind of girl who goes home with men I just met.”
He tilted his head to the side and his grin somehow widened. “See, we have something in common. I don’t go home with men I just met either.”
The corner of her lip twitched despite herself.
“It this something you do for all of the girls you have one-night stands with?” The question was out of her mouth before she thought better of it and she inwardly cringed at her words. She was that girl. The one-night stand girl.
His head straightened and he studied her for a second, the humor in his eyes gone. “First of all, I’ve never made breakfast for any girl that I’ve brought home. And second, I wouldn’t classify you as a one-night stand.”
His words had her coming up short again. She couldn’t get her brain to connect with her mouth to say anything.
“Let me cook for you, Harper. Then I’ll take you wherever you want to go.”
It was on the tip of her tongue to say no, to ask that he just drive her back now. She wasn’t sure what it was, the fact that he hadn’t called her a one-night stand or the intensity in his gaze, because the word “okay” slipped past her lips. And judging by the look on his face, she wasn’t the only one shocked by it.
“Good.” He pushed himself off the counter and crossed the space to her, reaching out to hand her the bra when he was close enough. When she grabbed it he didn’t let go. His green-gold eyes focused on hers as his free hand slipped around her waist and he moved in closer. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
He hesitated for just a moment, giving her a second to object…but just like the night before she found herself objectionless. She couldn’t think straight around this man, not when he was speaking, or looking at her, or breathing in her general direction. And now he had his hand on her, his mouth just inches from hers.
She gave a small nod before he lowered his head. His lips gently brushed hers and his fingers tightened at her hip bringing her flush against his body. She couldn’t stop herself from sighing in pleasure and the second her mouth was open he took full advantage, dipping his tongue inside. She wasn’t the only one who’d taken a moment to freshen their breath either and he tasted so damn good.
And just like that her palms were flat on his chest, like they had a mind of their own. Yup, her ability to think straight was obliterated when he was around…but maybe thinking straight was entirely overrated.

Excerpt:
Kate stayed firmly planted in her seat as he offered to help her up. Trying her best to appear unaffected, she arched one eyebrow. "Does this usually work for you?"
The guy didn't pull his hand back or in any other way appear to alter his strategy, and Kate had to give him points for that. "Yes, actually."
"Interesting."
The sad truth was, his offer was beyond tempting. The attention was nice, especially after her self-esteem had been beaten down the way it had in the past year. Hell, in the past twenty-two. It wouldn't hurt to have someone who spoke fluent French showing her around, either. That he was as attractive as he was just made the deal sweeter.
"Not working so well on you, then?" he asked as she considered him.
"Not so far."
His smile only widened. "Good. I like a girl who's hard to crack." Standing up straighter, he held his palms out at his sides. "Come on, what have you got to lose?"
"I'd say my wallet, but that's already gone."
"See? Low stakes. Listen, you don't trust me." That was an understatement. Was there a man left on Earth that she did? "I don't blame you. Devilishly handsome man wanders into a café and buys you a drink without asking? Offers to show you around town? Very suspicious."
"Very."
"So let's make this safe. You said you wanted to see the Louvre? Let's go to the Louvre. I'll show you all my favorites, and then if I haven't murdered you by supper time, you let me take you someplace special. Someplace no guide book in the world would ever recommend."
She was really running out of reasons to say no. It was a good plan, this one. They'd be in a public place. She'd have time to feel him out a little more. And if he wasn't too much of a psycho, well, everyone had to eat, didn't they?
Still, she kept up her air of skepticism. She rather liked all his efforts to convince her. "I don't even know your name."
The way his dimples shone when he lifted up one corner of his mouth was completely unfair. Extending his hand again, he offered, "Rylan. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
Rylan. That was unusual. She liked it.
"Kate," she volunteered in return, and with no more real excuse not to, she accepted the handshake, slipping her palm into his. Warm fingers curled around hers, his thumb stroking the side of her hand, and oh. The rake. He bent forward as he tugged on her hand, twisting ever so slightly so he could press his lips to the back of her palm.
"Charmed."
"I'll bet you are." But her pulse was racing faster, and the kiss felt like it seared all the way to her spine.
This man was dangerous.
He straightened up but he didn't let go. Sweeping his other arm toward the door, he asked, "So?"
She hummed to herself as she gazed up at him, as if there was any question of what she was going to do. His blue eyes sparkled, like he already knew her answer, too.
"Well." She rose from her seat, feeling taller than usual. More powerful. Maybe it was all the flattery of a guy like this hitting on her. Maybe it was the headiness of making this kind of a decision. Either way, it made her straighten her shoulders and insert a little sway into the movement of her hips.
"Well?"
"Lead on," she said.
He didn't let go of her hand. "That's what I was hoping you'd say." With a squeeze of her fingers, he took a step toward the door. "Let's go look at some art."
External pressures aside, she had come to Paris to be inspired by beauty. She could find it on the walls of a famous museum. And she could find it in the lines of this man's shoulders and throat. The latter might not have been what she'd had in mind when she'd set out, but what was a little bit of a diversion?
You couldn't find yourself without taking a couple of side trips, after all.

Thankful Tuesday #1

Thankful Tuesday

Ok y'all. We are now into November (gasp) where did the year go? It seems like it was just yesterday when I was ringing in the New Year. The old saying is true, time flies when you're having fun. I thought I would do something fun on this little blog of mine. Every Tuesday and Thursdays I'm going to post a "Thankful" post. Just something I'm thankful for. It can be anyything, there's no rules here. I would love it if y'all left a comment letting me know what you're thankful for.

I'm thankful for.........
My family and friends.
We may fight and argue with one another, but at the end of the day they are all I have and I cherish them more than anyone could ever know. Not everyone in this world has a family, and that fact makes me even more thankful for mine.
My loving amazing husband, My amazing bestfriend Mama, my strong and calm step-daddy, my fiesty little firecracker of a sister, my witty comedic relief brother, and my new little neice. Without these people I would just be a shell of a person.
Be Thankful for every minute you have with the people you love.

Review: Recipes for a perfect marriage

Recipes for a perfect marriage by Kate Kerrigan
Publisher: Head of Zeus
Release date: November 1, 2015
My rating: 4
Buy here: Amazon

Synopsis:
New York food writer Tressa returns from honeymoon worried that she has married her impossibly handsome new husband Dan out of late-thirties panic instead of love.
In 1930's Ireland, her grandmother, Bernadine, is married off to the local schoolteacher after her family are unable to raise a dowry for her to marry her true love, Michael.
During the first year of her marriage, Tressa distracts herself from her stay-or-go dilemma by working on her grandmother's recipes, searching for solace and answers through their preparation.
Through the stories of these two women RECIPES FOR A PERFECT MARRIAGE challenges the modern ideal of romantic love as a given and ponders whether true love can really be learned.

My Thoughts:
I've been a fan of Kate Kerrigan since Ellis Island and when I was asked to review this book, I jumped at the chance. Tressa wanted to be married and a family, so she basically "settled" for the first man to love her. Only it turned out that Dan, her new husband, annoyed her and she begins to question why she married him to begin with. I really did not like Tressa at the beginning of this book, but as I read on, she became more real to me and I started understanding her better. Everyone knows that marriage isn't perfect or easy, and your spouse will annoy you and there will be times that you want to run away, but it's all worth it. Tressa realized that she did love Dan, she was just looking at all the bad and not the good. I loved how this book switched between Tressa and Bernadine. This book was thought-provoking and sweet read for a lazy day.

***Laguna Heights can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novella. And if you enjoy Annie and Hank's story, please consider reading the rest of the Laguna Beach series.

Laguna Nights (Laguna Beach Book 1), Madison and Josh
Laguna Heights (Laguna Beach Book 2), Annie and Hank
Laguna Lights (Laguna Beach Book 3), Laura and Paul
Laguna Sights (Laguna Beach Book 4), Jamie and Scott

My Thoughts:
This was a very short and simple read. This whole series is a spin off of the original MTV show Laguna beach. Laguna Heights deals with rape. Annie was manipulated and the victim of a stalker, though she had no idea he was a stalker at the time. There was a plot in this book and it was a good one, I didn't see the ending coming at all. If you like quick reads,go read this one. You'll love it.

My Thoughts:
What an awesome book. Welcome to Corporate America! I was laughing so hard during parts of this book that I had to walk away and come back. This book makes me thank heavens that I didn't go into corporate law like I originally wanted to. I'm much better suited for the fashion world. This book follows Mackenzie as she climbs the cutthroat corporate ladder of a big Manhattan law firm. Whether youre a lawyer or not, you will undoubtely enjoy this amazing book. You will cringe, snicker, and at times you'll be rooting for Mackenzie to throat-punch someone. I can't say enough good things about this book. EVERYONE should read it, I accept cupcakes as thanks for telling y'all about this book.
